For centuries, saunas have been used in traditional medicine. Sweating has long been thought to have health benefits, and sitting in a sauna and sweating it all out is incredibly relaxing. However, did you know there’s a new sauna option?
We will learn the Benefits of Traditional Dry Sauna vs. Infrared Sauna below.
WHAT IS A TRADITIONAL SAUNA?
The room’s heat causes the person to become warmer and sweat in a traditional sauna, which is typically heated to between 70oC and 110oC. The löyly, or atmosphere, of a traditional steam sauna, is created by pouring water onto heated sauna stones.
Traditional dry saunas use a physical source to heat the air in the room, typically a wood-burning stove or heated stones heated by an enclosed electrical or natural gas heating element.
The heat from the warmed air enters your skin and triggers a physiological response as your body attempts to maintain a homeostatic state by balancing itself with the hot environment.
It creates a medium that allows the heat to travel into your body faster, slowing your body’s cooling ability by stopping sweat evaporation and thus stimulating an even more vigorous physiological response.
WHAT IS AN INFRARED SAUNA?
Infrared saunas are a more modern version of the traditional sauna. These concentrate on the heat rather than the humidity aspect of the sauna experience. There is no steam, only rays that warm the body while not raising the room’s temperature.
Far infrared and near-infrared saunas are the two most common types of infrared saunas. Far infrared saunas use rays that cannot penetrate the user’s skin and deeper tissues. Saunas that use near-infrared rays emit rays that can penetrate the skin up to several inches deep, increasing their effectiveness.
On the other hand, infrared saunas use a specially designed bulb, or heating element, that emits infrared energy and is made of a specific ceramic or metal. This energy has the same wavelength as sunlight, which produces warmth and heat and is responsible for the soothing and deep warmth you feel when you expose your skin to the sun.
INFRARED SAUNA BENEFITS VS TRADITIONAL SAUNA BENEFITS
Compared to a traditional dry sauna, the advantage of using an infrared sauna is that heat can be generated deeper into your body’s core.
While more research is needed, it’s thought that this feature of the infrared sauna is what makes it so effective for detoxification, physical performance, and arthritic pain relief. Infrared sauna research has shown that it improves physical performance, from athletes to people with heart disease.
It has been shown to improve cardiac function and exercise capacity in people with heart disease and improve blood circulation and stimulate the formation of new blood vessels in people who have diabetes or peripheral arterial disease. In people with chronic fatigue syndrome, it has also been shown to improve mood, increase energy, and reduce depression and anxiety.
According to some studies, infrared saunas help stimulate the release of certain chemical compounds in the body, particularly nitric oxide, which relaxes and opens blood vessels, reducing blood pressure and preventing diseases of the blood vessels such as atherosclerosis.
It’s not difficult to deduce that using a sauna can help with nearly any condition caused by poor blood circulation or inflammation.
Another advantage of infrared saunas is that they are more tolerable than other sauna types. It does not require the air to be heated or humid as a traditional sauna because your body absorbs the infrared light and warms directly.
If you dislike traditional saunas because of their intensity but want to reap the health benefits, an infrared sauna is suitable. The individualized and private nature of the infrared sauna experience is also enjoyable.
Heat settings can be adjusted to your tolerance and health needs because treatment sessions are reserved, and the sauna is private to you. This solitude also creates a tranquil environment, which can be used as a meditative incubator.
