Saunas that use near-infrared rays emit rays that can penetrate the skin up to several inches deep, increasing their effectiveness.

On the other hand, infrared saunas use a specially designed bulb, or heating element, that emits infrared energy and is made of a specific ceramic or metal. This energy has the same wavelength as sunlight, which produces warmth and heat and is responsible for the soothing and deep warmth you feel when you expose your skin to the sun.


Compared to a traditional dry sauna, the advantage of using an infrared sauna is that heat can be generated deeper into your body’s core.

While more research is needed, it’s thought that this feature of the infrared sauna is what makes it so effective for detoxification, physical performance, and arthritic pain relief. Infrared sauna research has shown that it improves physical performance, from athletes to people with heart disease.

It has been shown to improve cardiac function and exercise capacity in people with heart disease and improve blood circulation and stimulate the formation of new blood vessels in people who have diabetes or peripheral arterial disease. In people with chronic fatigue syndrome, it has also been shown to improve mood, increase energy, and reduce depression and anxiety.

According to some studies, infrared saunas help stimulate the release of certain chemical compounds in the body, particularly nitric oxide, which relaxes and opens blood vessels, reducing blood pressure and preventing diseases of the blood vessels such as atherosclerosis.

It’s not difficult to deduce that using a sauna can help with nearly any condition caused by poor blood circulation or inflammation.

Another advantage of infrared saunas is that they are more tolerable than other sauna types. It does not require the air to be heated or humid as a traditional sauna because your body absorbs the infrared light and warms directly.

If you dislike traditional saunas because of their intensity but want to reap the health benefits, an infrared sauna is suitable. The individualized and private nature of the infrared sauna experience is also enjoyable.
