5 Questions to Help You Choose the Right Dance Studio

Updated: Mar 11, 2023

It’s just as important for you to find the right studio for pole and other dance as it is to decide to actually invest in your dancing. The right studio will give you the perfect intersection of quality, price, and experience, leaving you excited and ready for more. Lack of quality disintegrates the experience you receive. Poor experience can leave you disinterested in dance. Poor pricing may mean overcrowded classes where you don’t get enough attention or participation because everyone’s crammed from wall to wall.

No matter what you’re looking for, here are 5 questions you should ask to determine whether or not Evolve – or any other studio – is right for you.

1. How accessible is the studio?

Your studio of choice should be relatively easy to access. If your car breaks down, or your transportation is unreliable, can you walk to class? If not, will cab fare be too expensive? Further, how close is the studio from your home, or if you’re attending after work, your office? You want to make sure that once you fall in love with the atmosphere, regular attendance isn’t a problem.

2. What are the offerings?

Some studios only offer pole dance; others branch out to provide a wide breadth of classes, workshops, and more. In your search, you’ll find pole dance studios merged with burlesque studios, fitness centers, juice bars, and more. It’s great when you find a studio that gels with your personal needs; even better when those needs complement your health and fitness journey.

3. How serious are you?

You’ll need a different kind of studio for recreational, fun dance than you would if you were interested in developing professional technique and skills. Fun and relaxed studio atmospheres will have classes that are laidback and easy, designed to get you socializing. You’ll leave entertained and feeling ten times lighter from any stress released during class. More serious programs and classes may still be fun, but will require more dedication, repetition and practice, which may lead to a stricter, less sociable environment due to classmates focusing.

4. Is the energy enticing?

You can’t invest your time and money in a studio whose energy completely sucks. If you’re not feeling the energy in your current studio, or any of the ones you’re scouting, then you might want to keep looking. Otherwise, you’ll end up investing in a membership or series of classes that just don’t vibe well with you, leaving you out of place – and out of money. Tip: Always purchase an introductory kit for classes to get a feel for membership. Evolve offers several specials for new members to allow them to get a taste of what we have to offer.

5. What are others saying?

Human experience is transcendent. Sometimes knowing how others have perceived their experience gives us reassurance because we’ll know what to expect. When it comes to choosing the right dance studio, the sentiments aren’t any different. Check places like Yelp to see what people have to say about your studios of interest. Their insights give you an idea as to the nature of the studio, its personality, the instructors’ teaching styles, and the overall energy available. If you like what you read, then you’ve got more reassurance that a studio may be a great fit for you.
